Devco Development & Engineering completed a 1,750 linear foot directional boring project for the installation of a 14-inch customer-supplied steel sleeve. The project included full utility coordination, potholing verification, bore pit excavation, reaming operations, pullback, welding support, drilling fluid management, and restoration.
Utility Delineation
USA North Dig Alert: Secured and maintained an active dig alert ticket for identification of publicly owned underground utilities.
Verified marked utilities along the proposed bore alignment prior to drilling operations.
Potholing & Utility Verification
Performed potholing using an 8-inch core drilling method to expose utilities intersecting or running parallel to the bore path.
Utilized vacuum excavation to safely daylight utilities.
Backfilled potholes with utility sand or 50/50 mix, compacted, and restored surface cores with cement seal.
Bore Pit Excavation
Excavated entry and receiving bore pits necessary to complete directional drilling operations.
Provided required shoring and excavation support in soil conditions.
Prepared pits to safely accommodate drilling equipment and pullback operations.
Directional Boring Operations
Directionally bored approximately 1,750 linear feet.
Installed one pilot bore along the designed alignment.
Reamed the bore path to 20 inches to accommodate product installation.
Successfully pulled back one (1) 14-inch customer-supplied and assembled steel sleeve.
Drilling Fluid Management
Deployed vacuum trucks and tankers to manage drilling fluids during pilot and reaming operations.
Maintained proper containment and removal of drilling mud and spoils.
Disposed of all materials in accordance with environmental regulations.
Welding & Installation Support
Provided labor, pipe stands, welding trucks, and equipment to complete one-pass welding fusions of steel pipe.
Backfill & Restoration
Backfilled all bore pits with native material and/or sand/50-50 mix.
Restored disturbed areas to trench width only.
Project Outcome
The installation was completed safely and efficiently, with accurate utility verification, controlled drilling fluid management, and precise steel sleeve placement. Devco maintained a clean and organized jobsite throughout all phases of work.
