Directional Boring in Red Rock by DEVCO Development and Engineering
DEVCO Development and Engineering provides professional directional boring for underground utilities in Red Rock and throughout Pinal County. We work with general contractors, utility owners, public agencies, and private property owners to install or upgrade lines under roads, driveways, and sensitive areas without open trenches, using guided boring rigs and experienced HDD crews.
Underground Utility Bores, Explained in Plain Language
Directional boring, also called horizontal directional drilling (HDD), is a way to install pipe or conduit underground along a planned path without cutting a long open trench.
We drill a small pilot hole from the entry pit to the exit point, constantly steering the drill head using a locator. Once we’re on target, we use reamers to enlarge the hole to the right size and then pull your product—conduit, HDPE pipe, water service, power, gas, or fiber—back through the bore path.
This approach is ideal when you need underground utilities but don’t want to tear up asphalt, concrete, landscaping, or natural desert areas.
Where Directional Boring Makes Sense
We use Directional Boring Red Rock projects in all kinds of situations, from simple residential crossings to more complex commercial and public work. Anytime you say, “I need that utility over there, but I really don’t want a trench across this,” boring is usually the answer.
- Running new electrical or communication conduit under paved roads or long driveways
- Water and sewer service laterals without disrupting existing surfaces
- Fiber and low-voltage upgrades to built-out commercial sites
- Crossings under landscaping, parking lots, drainage features, or entry gates
- Utility relocations for site redevelopment or roadway improvements
Directional Boring for Utility Upgrades in Red Rock
Directional boring for utility upgrades Red Rock work is a big part of what we do. As properties add more power demand, EV chargers, higher-capacity water lines, or faster internet, the existing underground utilities often can’t keep up.
Instead of digging up drive lanes or shutting down operations, we can often drill a new path and pull in upgraded lines while the existing services stay live. Once the new utility is tested and accepted, your electrician, plumber, or telecom provider can switch over with minimal downtime.
What to Line Up Before We Drill
Every bore is a little different, but there are a few things it helps to have ready or at least in discussion:
We’ll talk through:
- Utility maps, as-built plans, and known conflicts
- Required pipe or conduit type, sizes, and final tie-in points
- Preferred entry and exit locations and working space for our rig and vac unit
- Any agency or utility permits that may apply
- Surface restoration expectations (asphalt patches, concrete, landscaping, etc.)
If you’re not sure on some of this, that’s fine—we can help you sort it out during planning.
Why Experienced Boring Contractors Matter
On paper, directional boring looks simple. In the field, it’s all about planning, steering skill, and reading the ground. An inexperienced crew can drift off line, strike existing utilities, get stuck, or create sinkholes or blowouts.
Our team focuses on accurate locating, maintaining proper depth and separation from existing lines, managing drilling fluids responsibly, and choosing the right tools for the soil conditions on your specific site. That’s how we keep bores on target and reduce surprises for the GC and owner.
