Utility Trenching and Hydro Excavation in Chino

Utility Delineation

  • USA Dig Alert: Devco secured and maintained a valid USA dig alert ticket to ensure that all public underground utilities were accounted for on the property.

  • Private Utility Locator: Devco supplied a private locator to identify any private utilities that intersected with the trench paths.

Utility Verification via Potholing

  • Potholing Operations: Devco conducted potholing to confirm the locations of the existing utilities that intersected or ran parallel to the trench paths. This was done in coordination with the markings provided by both the private locator and USA dig alert.

  • Backfilling: After the potholing operations, the potholes were backfilled with utility sand and compacted until intersected by the trenching operations.

Excavation

  • Trenching Distance: Devco successfully completed trenching for a total of 540 linear feet (LF) to allow SCG to install a new 2” HDPE gas line.

    • Location 1: 380 LF of trenching in the asphalt parking lot for the new gas line.

    • Location 2: 160 LF of trenching in the concrete walkway between buildings, including two laterals for new meter locations.

  • Saw Cutting: Devco performed saw cutting along the full 540 LF of trench line to prepare for the installation of the gas line.

  • Hydro Excavation: Utilizing hydro vac equipment, Devco used hydro excavation techniques to safely and efficiently excavate around existing utilities, ensuring minimal disruption. Machine and hand digging methods were also employed where needed for precise trenching.

  • Steel Plates: Steel plates were supplied and installed to cover the trench lines while work was ongoing.

Spoils Management

  • Dump Trucks: Twelve (12) 10-yard dump trucks were deployed to haul and dispose of the 111.11 cubic yards of spoils from the trenching operations.

Backfilling of Trenches

  • All trench lines were bedded and shaded with utility sand for the new 2” gas line.

  • Twelve (12) 10-yard slurry trucks, filled with 1-sack slurry, were used to backfill the 111.11 cubic yards of trenches.

Restoration

  • Asphalt Trenches: All trenches located in the asphalt were T-cut, grinded, and repaved with 29 tons of asphalt.

  • Concrete Trenches: Trenches located in concrete areas were restored to trench width only and completed with a broom finish.
