Directional Boring, Utility Trenching and Asphalt Paving in Dana Point

Directional Boring Project – Dana Point, CA

Devco Development & Engineering completed a turnkey underground construction project in Dana Point. The scope of work included utility locating, potholing, directional boring, trenching, conduit installation, and full restoration.

Utility Delineation

  • USA Dig Alert: Devco secured and maintained a valid Dig Alert ticket for public utilities.
  • Private Locator: Devco provided a private utility locator to identify underground lines on private property.

Utility Verification via Potholing

  • Performed potholing using 8” core method and vacuum excavation.
  • Backfilled with sand and 50/50 mix, compacted, and sealed each core.
  • All pothole slurry and mud was hauled away and properly disposed of.

Excavation and Directional Boring

  • Saw cut and excavated (2) entry pits, (1) tie-in pit, and (2) receiving pits.
  • Removed and hauled away all debris from pit excavations.
  • Directional bored and installed:
    • (1) 3” Schedule 40 PVC conduit, 320 LF, from parking lot to north side of property.
    • (1) 3” Schedule 40 PVC conduit, 150 LF, from parking lot to switch gear.
  • Hydro excavated and installed (1) trench 130’L × 2’W × 3’D with (1) 3” Schedule 40 PVC. Backfilled with imported B-20 sand, placed electrical warning tape, and compacted.

Sweeps and Backfilling

  • Installed (4) 3” 36R sweeps at stub-up locations.
  • Backfilled with native soil, compacted, and repaved all pit locations to bore width.
  • Pulled (1) ¾” mule tape into newly installed conduits.
  • Supplied and set (1) hand hole with concrete lid, placed on rock base.

Restoration

  • Restored asphalt to bore pit width in 6” lifts.
  • Restriped (1) parking stall to original condition.

Project Outcome

This Dana Point project was delivered on time and to spec. Devco ensured safe utility locating, accurate conduit installation, and professional site restoration, leaving the property ready for use.
